  • Choir Description:
Qatar Youth Choir Qatar Youth Choir founded in 2013 by Irish-born conductor Alena Pyne, is for mixed voices aged 14–18+ years, now in its 8th year.  This is an ambitious choir that is always ready for a new challenge.  Our motto is “Carpe Diem”.

We perform music from all epochs and in many world languages.  Our favorite genre is folk songs from all corners of the world and we are especially happy to sing Arabic repertoire.  We were awarded 1st prize in the inaugural Qatar National Music Competition in October 2017 in the Youth Category, and in our short existence have toured to Germany, Latvia, Croatia and Austria and represented Qatar at the World Choral Expo in Lisbon in July 2019. We have also done a recording and performed frequently with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.

Qatar Junior Choir, formed in 2015, is for younger boys and girls aged 10–13 years. Rehearsals are twice weekly for 1 hour together with one single hour of music theory each week. This choir performs in local concerts with the Qatar Youth Choir and receives basic choral training in preparation for joining the Youth Choir at age 14.

Both ensembles aim to deliver polished and unique performances, every time, and to have good fun along the way!

QJC runs a younger starter singing group for children aged 7–9 years. They rehearse together once every week.
